Horwich sits at the foot of the West Pennine Moors with Winter Hill as its backdrop, and the town’s character reflects its industrial and moorland heritage. The older streets in the town centre, around Railway Street and the terraces climbing towards the moors on Lee Lane, are classic mill-town in layout. Many of these properties have cobbled back streets with access just about wide enough for a van but not much else. On-street parking on the main terraced streets can be dense, particularly in the evenings and early mornings.

Wide roads, off-street parking and driveways make access in these areas very manageable. A lot of Horwich’s growth in the last two decades has happened here.

Middlebrook Retail Park and the surrounding road network generate peak-hour congestion on the key routes into Horwich.
